Congratulations to first-year PhD student Zhen Xu for receiving the John Castellan Student Paper Award from the Society for Computation in Psychology! This annual award honors the most outstanding student paper on the application of computational or computerized methods to any area of psychology.
Congratulations to first-year PhD student Daniel March for receiving the Postsecondary Education Applied Research (PEAR) Fellowship to support his doctoral study! This fellowship provides doctoral students with training in advanced quantitative analysis and the practical skills needed for a career in applied research in postsecondary education.

We received an internal one-year grant from Teachers College to collaborate on a new project with the Community College Research Center (CCRC). We will leverage large-scale curricular analytics to understand skill development and student success in higher education.

Dr. Yu and colleagues’ FAccT paper on cross-institutional transfer learning to improve student retention prediction across institutions was covered by Cornell Chronicle.
Dr. Yu and colleagues from UCI shared research that leverages big data to understand student experience with the Chronicle of Higher Education, a leading news outlet covering U.S. academia.
Congratulations to Dr. Yu for receiving the Emerging Scholar Award from the Society for Learning Analytics Research (SoLAR)! SoLAR is an inter-disciplinary network of leading international researchers who are exploring the role and impact of analytics on teaching, learning, training and development.
We received a two-year grant from the Learning Engineering Virtual Institute (LEVI). In collaboration with researchers at Cornell and UMich, we will conduct research to support algorithmic fairness and transfer learning in education.
